Fusion of Tradition and Advanced Technology: Shirakoma Manufacturing
This time, I had the pleasure of visiting a skilled artisan in Ota City.
I met with Mr. Hideo Shirakoma of Shirakoma Manufacturing, a company specializing in precision plastic molding, as well as advanced techniques such as 3D photofabrication and laser processing. After beginning his career as a programmer, he entered the world of manufacturing and has since taken over the business from his father.
While utilizing cutting-edge technology, he is also involved in design and planning, and actively collaborates with traditional Japanese artisans, offering custom-made creations as well.
Mr. Shirakoma is also a member of the Ota City Association for the Development of Traditional Crafts, which I have mentioned several times before. Speaking with him inspired many new ideas for potential collaborative works among members.
