How have you been?
My core work is in branding support, and as a Vision Stylist, I focus on both inner aspects (coaching) and outer expression (fashion).
This time, I had the opportunity to lead a seminar on base colors in fashion at a workshop and networking event hosted by the Japan Cultural Stage Support Organization.
It was also my first collaboration seminar in a while—together with the elegant and charming Japanese dance instructor Shōen Wakayanagi (Mari Kaizuka).
Japanese Culture Workshop & Networking Event (August Edition)
Date: Sunday, August 27
Time: 13:00–16:00
Venue: Yamato Shosa Juku
Programs:
- “Base Color Seminar to Enhance Your Natural Charm”
Instructor: Yuu Yoshioka - “Custom-Made Makeup to Enhance Your Natural Charm”
Instructor: Shōen Wakayanagi
Part 1: Base Color Seminar
Through working with color, I’ve come to realize that traditional Japanese attire (kimono) embraces color far more consciously than Western-style clothing.
Modern fashion often revolves around neutral tones—white, black, beige—
and even though people are interested in color analysis, many still choose safe, understated colors.
In contrast, kimono is rich with color, allowing us to truly appreciate its beauty.
By understanding color more deeply, we can enhance the elegance of kimono and better express the aesthetics of Japanese culture.
I believe that those involved in Japanese culture, in particular, should understand the meaning of colors, enjoy them, and incorporate them into their personal branding.
During the session, participants experienced being color stylists themselves, evaluating and discussing each other’s best colors.
With smiles, they shared impressions like:
“This color suits you!”
“This shade gives a different impression!”
It was wonderful to see how they experienced the visual impact of color firsthand.
Part 2: Custom-Made Makeup Seminar
Instructor: Shōen Wakayanagi
Ms. Wakayanagi is a specialist in Japanese aesthetics, with extensive experience in performance, makeup, and kimono dressing.
From traditional ozashiki makeup to modern styles, she creates looks tailored to each individual’s facial structure.
In this collaborative session, she shared insights on both Japanese and Western beauty approaches, offering clear and practical explanations of makeup suited to Japanese features.
Her ability to express the beauty of Japanese culture through both inner and outer aspects was truly captivating.
Thank you very much to everyone who participated in this event.
