Since the beginning of this year, I have had more opportunities to connect with people involved in traditional Japanese culture in my role as a “Japanese Cultural Artisan Promoter.”
Recently, we held a Zoom meeting with artisans and supporters who will be participating in the lobby exhibition at the upcoming event:
“Waden Festival” – A Dinner Show of Japanese Elegance and Performance
(Scheduled for Saturday, July 8, 2023)
This event is a stage production led by leaders dedicated to preserving Japanese cultural heritage.
It will feature a wide range of traditional performing arts, including:
- Japanese dance
- Tea ceremony
- Flower arrangement
- Calligraphy
- Koto and shamisen music
- Shigin (traditional chanting)
- Opera
- Cultural fashion shows
Some people may feel that Japanese culture is difficult to approach,
or may have an interest but few opportunities to experience it.
I truly hope this event will serve as a gateway for many to discover and connect with Japanese culture.
I will also be supporting the exhibition in the lobby, so I would be delighted if you could visit us.
The following artisans and works are scheduled to be featured:
●Edo Karakami (traditional decorative paper)
●Edo Folding Screens https://www.byoubu.co.jp/
●Edo Lacquerware
●Tokyo Hand-Painted Yuzen https://ryuusei.jp/
