I recently visited the workshop of Mr. Tsuneo Ono, Director and Secretary General of the Ota City Association for the Development of Traditional Crafts, whom I met at the Ota City Traditional Crafts Exhibition.
Mr. Ono first encountered ice carving while working in Western cuisine. After refining his skills and techniques, he left his career as a chef and has since become a leading figure in this field.
Utilizing his expertise, he now also offers experiences such as fruit and soap carving, as well as creating works using sandblasting techniques.
We had an enjoyable conversation about his work and discussed ideas for future projects.
Although I have lived in Tokyo for over a decade, I realized there are still so many places and artisans nearby that I have yet to discover. This experience made me appreciate this area even more.
