Iwate: Home of the Nanbu Toji

How have you been?

I am originally from Morioka City in Iwate Prefecture.
Iwate is known as one of the three major sake-brewing guilds in Japan, represented by the Nanbu Toji, master brewers of traditional Japanese sake.

Recently, a sake tasting and sales event featuring Iwate’s local brews was held at Iwate Ginga Plaza, an antenna shop located across from Kabukiza Theatre in Tokyo.

These days, Iwate is also widely recognized as the hometown of Shohei Ohtani, and there were even sake products inspired by him—something that didn’t exist when I lived there. It was fascinating to see how the lineup has evolved over time.

At the venue, I had the opportunity to sample a variety of sake while speaking with the Executive Director of the Iwate Prefecture Sake Brewers Association. I learned about topics such as GI (Geographical Indication) certification and the current state of local breweries, which was extremely insightful.

I also met staff members from Nanbu Bijin Brewery, both of whom were from overseas. They explained the sake with great care and professionalism, which made me realize once again that Iwate’s sake is truly recognized and appreciated worldwide.

My personal concept is:
“Connecting and expanding people, products, hearts, and culture.”

When I moved from Morioka to Tokyo, I had a strong desire:
to contribute to Iwate,
and to become a bridge connecting local regions with Tokyo—and with the world.

With this vision in mind, I hope to collaborate with sake breweries and companies in Iwate in the future.

Iwate is blessed not only with exceptional sake, but also with abundant delicacies from both the sea and the mountains.
I warmly invite you to visit Iwate Prefecture or stop by its antenna shops to experience it for yourself.
